Obituary

Homer “Sonny” Wroten Torbert, Jr. of Magnolia, DE passed away on October 28, 2025 at the age of 83.

A graduate of Felton High School, Mr. Torbert was employed in various jobs, but his main passion was his music. As an accomplished saxophonist, he played jazz in many Mid Atlantic and Michigan venues, and later in life provided piano technician and tuning services in Delaware, New Mexico, and other locales.

He was preceded in death by his sister. Norma (Tootsie) Jones, his father, Homer Wroten Torbert, and his mother, Blanche Briggs. Survivors include his daughter, Angela (Torbert) Clemente, son, Miles Torbert, and son, Jason Torbert (Natalie), granddaughters, Christina Laudati (Mike) and Brandie Cohen, grandson, Santreanno Clemente, and great granddaughter, Abbie Mae Cohen. He is also survived by his spouse, Joy Torbert, as well as Zach Wiley, Amber Wiley (Jeff Welch), Benedict Wiley and Beatrice Welch.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM on December 6, 2025 at the Killens Pond Nature Center. In lieu of flowers, donations for a memorial bench to be installed on the Killens Pond Pondside Trail or to Fox Chase Cancer Center in his name would be gratefully accepted.
