Obituary

Howard James Shaffer, known to friends and family as "Jim," was born on June 13, 1946, in Darby, Pennsylvania. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, with his devoted wife and daughter beside him.

Jim grew up in Chester, PA, where he attended Chester High School. He went on to become a proud member of the United States Army in 1967 where he learned the craft of welding while serving his country. He went on to start a successful career and family while remaining a member of the Army Reserves until 1971.

Jim perfected his craft in welding working for companies which enabled him to become a master welder and teacher for up-and-coming welders. He was beloved and respected by everyone he worked with.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol Anne Shaffer (Stevenson), his two children, Kimberly McElroy (Tom) and Brian Shaffer (Dana) along with his three siblings, Nancy Passalacqua (Joe), Thomas Shaffer (Sandra), and Robert Shaffer (Tina). Jim was a loving grandfather to his beautiful grandchildren, Kelly, Matthew, Kacie, Kelsey, Jillian, Kate, and Kassidy. He was predeceased by his daughter Kristi and his parents, Hilda and Howard Lee Shaffer.

Jim had a passion for music since he was young. He played guitar and could sing with the voice of an angel. He had a passion for cars, specifically his 1967 Pontiac Firebird. Jim was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, cheering on his teams with his wife.

Jim touched everyone who knew him. His friends, neighbors, and family will remember him for his strength, love for his family, and the positive impact he had on those around him. He will be greatly missed, but his love, legacy, and teachings will live on forever in our hearts.
