James E.
Hidy
March 15, 2023
Resided in Wilmington, DE
James Eugene Hidy (Pipa) born in Dayton, Ohio on September 7, 1941, moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1967, passed away at home on March 15, 2023, in the early hours of the morning.
He was a graduate of The Ohio State University ‘63, where he was a member of the Varsity Men’s Basketball team and a brother of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Basketball was not the only sport Jim enjoyed, he was an active member of the DuPont Country Club where he was an avid tennis player, playing daily, well into his late sixties.
Jim spent more than three decades working a succession of successful jobs for the DuPont Company, culminating his career as an employee of CSC as a software engineer. He had a passion for learning and spent countless hours researching a wide range of information and was known to share his findings with his family members through frequent messages of advice, especially his brother Don. The daily conversations between the two brothers was something Jim held near and dear to his heart.
Jim loved life and found comedy in any situation. He was intelligent, compassionate and proud of the people that he loved and in his own way, let them know that often. He was a passionate sports fan and never missed an Ohio State game or his grandchildren’s swim meets with his favorite being those held at Penn State University where Pipa was infamous for hitting up the creamery for a daily coffee ice cream “breakfast”. He loved his ice cream as much as he loved his daily cups of coffee.
Jim is pre-deceased by his mother Audrey Bay Hidy (Scott), his father Gerald Eugene his brother Gary Scott Hidy and his adored daughter Amanda Christine Hidy. He is survived by his wife Lisa Hidy (Hummel), his brother Don (Katrina), his son Ben and his three step-daughters, who he considered his own, Katie Ciecko (Christopher), Julie Brazill (Greg), and Megan Stevenson (Christopher); his beloved grandchildren Bryce, Evan, and William Ciecko, Reese and Georgie Stevenson, Lincoln, Jackson and Evie Brazill and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His family was the pride and joy of his life and he was always happiest sharing stories that in true “Pipa-Style” were filled with wit; Jim had a memorable laugh that will not be forgotten.
Jim lived his life as an adventure and greeted each day with wonder, and encouraged others to do the same. To those who know Jim, “There you go.”
Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to The Ohio State Athletics (giveto.osu.edu) or the charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life is being planned for a future date.
