Questions about Our Services

  • Your site looks different, are you still the same company?

Yes! Tri-State Cremations has re-designed our packages and our website to make it easier for the families we serve. We are still the same people, dedicated to offering dignified and cost-effective cremations for people in our area in our private cremation facility.

  • What areas do you serve?

We currently offer services in all 3 counties of Delaware as well as Delaware, Chester, Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, and Eastern Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania.

  • What happens if my loved one passes away outside of your service area?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide services outside of our service area at this time. If your loved one had pre-paid for our services, the pre-payment can be transferred to the funeral home of your choice in the area in which the person passed away; however, please note that other funeral facilities will likely not honor our price guarantee.

  • Can I come to your facility to pick up the cremated remains of my loved one?

Our facility is completely private and not open to the public. At this time, all cremated remains and death certificates are delivered back to the family by mail only. You will be provided with a tracking number and a date of arrival after shipping.

  • Are you able to arrange for the burial of the cremated remains or a funeral service?

No. Unlike a traditional funeral home, we do not work with cemeteries or churches directly. The cremated remains of your loved one must be sent to a family member who can make the necessary arrangements with the cemetery.

  • Will you submit my loved one’s obituary to the newspaper?

We do not submit obituaries to newspapers. We will post a death notice to our website at no cost and will post your loved one’s full obituary on our website for a small additional fee.

  • Do you notify Social Security?

Yes. We notify Social Security that your loved one has passed away, though you will need to reach out to social security yourself to apply for survivor benefits or for specific information regarding payments.

Questions About Payment

  • Why should I pre-pay for services with Tri-State Cremation Society?

Pre-payment for our services not only qualifies yourself or your loved one for a pre-payment discount and locks in our services at their current pre-arrangement price, but it also removes the burden of providing payment and legal information at the time of your or your loved one’s passing. It means that all that needs to be completed when our services are needed is a phone call to let us know you are ready for us to transfer the person into our care.

  • What happens with the money when I pre-pay for your services?

In most cases, the funds are placed into a life insurance product that is fully transferrable to another funeral facility. In the event that we are unable to provide services at that time they are required for whatever reason, the funds can be transferred to the alternative funeral facility of your families’ choice.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

Currently we only accept payment by credit or debit card through our website.

  • When is payment due?

Payment is due in full before our staff transfer your loved one into our care.

Other Questions

  • How do I get death certificates?

Our packages include one death certificate. If the person passed away in Pennsylvania, you will have the option to add death certificates to your order at a cost of $20 each. If the person passes away in Delaware, instructions will be provided on how to get additional death certificates along with the one that comes in the package.

  • How long does the process take?

It can depend on a few factors, but generally we will have everything ready to mail back to the family within 2-3 weeks after taking the person into our care.

  • What do I do if a loved one passes away?

The first step is to contact a medical professional. If the person is on hospice care, then that would be the hospice that needs to be contacted first. If the person passes away unexpectedly and is not in a hospital or on hospice care, call 911 and report the passing. If the person that passed had pre-arranged with us, then give us a call at 855-396-3700 once the medical professional has completed their part. If they did not pre-arrange ahead of time, head to our website and select the Arrange Online option and then let us know that the death has already occurred. Fill out the forms online and once completed, we will make arrangements to transfer your loved one into our care.

  • How long will it take for your staff to arrive?

This depends on where the person is located when they pass away but we will dispatch our staff as soon as possible, and typically arrive within 90 minutes of being notified that the person is ready to be transferred into our care. In some cases, if the person passes away more than a one hour drive from our facility, we may arrange for a local funeral home to perform the initial transfer so that their family does not need to wait for our arrival. If our staff determines this is necessary, you will not be charged for the services of the local funeral home in such a case.

  • Are you affiliated with any other cremation society?

No. We are a locally owned and operated business operating out of Wilmington, Delaware. We are not affiliated with any other cremation society and our services and prices are not transferrable to or from another cremation society. While in most cases money paid for pre-arrangements can be transferred between cremation societies, we will not honor any price guarantee made by another cremation society, nor are they likely to honor ours.
